Leadership skills do and will have an impact on the success of a student as they emerge from adolescence to adulthood. Most can agree that this is not controversial or or in any way nonsense. “Leadership ability is often cited as an essential quality for success, and as with any valuable commodity, it is highly desired and sought after” (Northouse, 2013; Rost & Barker, 2000). But what does research show and how does it attribute to something measurable that we can all see. The University of Minnesota and Toronto examined various evidence based areas to determine whether leadership capacity within students gives them an advantage in life and more specifically the role it has when it comes to learning. It was found that leadership’s impact is significant when it comes to student learning (Anderson, Leithwood, Louis, & Wahlstrom 2004).
